On October 23rd, 2008, Microsoft released an out-of-cycle security update MS08-067 - Vulnerability in Server Service Could Allow Remote Code Execution (958644). Some Nortel products contain this software as a component and thus are potentially affected by the vulnerabilities addressed. This bulletin provides a multi-product consolidated response for the Nortel products which are potentially affected. MS08-067 addresses the following vulnerability: Server Service Vulnerability - CVE-2008-4250 A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the Server service on Windows systems. The vulnerability is due to the service not properly handling specially crafted RPC requests. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. Microsoft rates this update as follows: Executive Summary - This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in the Server service. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an affected system received a specially crafted RPC request. On Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability without authentication to run arbitrary code. It is possible that this vulnerability could be used in the crafting of a wormable exploit.
