| Description: |
On Tuesday, Feb 10th, Microsoft released MS09-002 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (961260). This security update resolves two privately reported vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. The security update addresses these vulnerabilities by modifying the way that Internet Explorer handles the error resulting in the exploitable condition. This bulletin provides a multi-product consolidated response for the Nortel products which are potentially affected. MS09-002 addresses the following CVEs: 1. Uninitialized Memory Corruption Vulnerability - CVE-2009-0075 A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way Internet Explorer accesses an object that has been deleted. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a specially crafted Web page. When a user views the Web page, the vulnerability could allow remote code execution. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the logged-on user. 2. CSS Memory Corruption Vulnerability - CVE-2009-0076 A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way Internet Explorer handles Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a specially crafted Web page. When a user views the Web page, the vulnerability could allow remote code execution. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the logged on user. Please refer to the Microsoft link in the Source section for additional information about workarounds and mitigating factors for the vulnerabilities addressed by this update.
